Christian Education
Sunday School
Our Sunday School program is
held in conjunction with the 10:00 service. Children participate
in the first portion of the worship and then go to Sunday School
just before the sermon begins. Our Sunday School curriculum
follows the Presbyterian lectionary, which makes church a family
affair. While Rev. Nelms is delivering a message to the
congregation the children are learning from the same Bible
passages at their level. Through weekly handouts and family
support through the curriculum’s website, there is opportunity
for families to expand on the lessons during the week at home.
Kenya Connection
Mission
News:
Yellow Frame’s
Elder Kim Graham traveled on a mission trip this past summer to
Nairobi,
Kenya
to visit our sister church there.
 We
are a "sister church” to a Presbyterian Church in Nairobi, Kenya
through the Congregation to Congregation Program organized by
the Newton Presbytery. Ten children in our Sunday School began
corresponding with children in the
Kariobangi South Parish
Church, Nairobi, Kenya
in 2005, and when Pastor Joseph of that church visited our
congregation in May 2006 the children took an active part in the
celebration.
Confirmation Classes
Confirmation classes are held for young people in the 10th
grade. This is a time of study and discussion as young
people prepare to affirm Jesus as Lord of their lives. The
time of study and discussion concludes around Easter during
a service of worship. For more information, please speak
with Rev. Nelms.
Women's Bible
Study
We have a dynamic women's Bible study group that meets every
other Thursday throughout the year. We explore a variety of
topics that help us grow spiritually, and in the process we
nurture one another in Christ with both laughter and tears.
The next study will be on women in the Bible and it will
begin in January 2008.
Adult Christian Education
A variety of adult education classes are offered by Rev.
Nelms. These are typically announced each fall. Beginning
in November 2007, a course on Family Systems Theory will be
held on Sundays at 11:15 –12:15. Family Systems Theory
encourages people to think of issues in terms of a
multigenerational family or a “system.” This approach
encourages people to move away from blaming others and
toward individual responsibility. For more information
contact Rev Nelms. (email link)
One of our elders, Kim Graham,
was commissioned by the Presbytery and our church to spend
three weeks in Kenya this past summer as a delegate to
Nairobi Presbytery. She took with her many gifts from our
Sunday School children for the children of Nairobi.
